Impec turns every paid order in your Shopify store into a compliant French invoice, issues a credit note for every refund, emails the PDF to your customer and prepares your accounting exports. No re-typing.
Getting started
- Install Impec from the Shopify App Store, then choose the plan that fits your sales volume.
- Open “My business” and fill in your company’s identity: legal name, legal form, SIREN, address, VAT number or VAT franchise. This information appears on every invoice.
- On the home page, click “Turn on invoicing”. Every order paid from then on gets an invoice.
If you already used another invoicing solution (or the invoice offered by Shopify), stop it before turning Impec on: a store must not run two invoice numbering sequences side by side.
How Impec issues invoices
- An invoice is issued as soon as an order is fully paid. It shows the issue date and the payment date.
- Invoices are numbered in sequence, with no gaps, independently of order numbers: F-2026-000001, F-2026-000002… Numbering restarts at 1 every year.
- Every invoice carries the mandatory French mentions: seller and customer identity, line details, VAT by rate, shipping, payment terms and, for business customers, late-payment penalties and the €40 fixed recovery fee.
- Orders paid before invoicing was turned on are not invoiced by Impec. Test orders are only invoiced on development stores.
- An issued invoice is never changed or deleted: corrections go through a credit note.
Refunds and credit notes
For every refund made in Shopify, Impec issues a credit note listing the refunded items and shipping, with a reference to the original invoice. Credit notes have their own numbering: AV-2026-000001, AV-2026-000002…
Sending invoices to your customers
- Every invoice and credit note is emailed automatically to your customer, with the PDF attached. The sender name is your company name; if your customer replies, the reply goes to the email address set in “My business”.
- You can turn automatic sending off in “My business”.
- The “Invoices” page shows whether each document was sent, and lets you send or resend it. A customer without an email address receives nothing: the reason is shown.
Factur-X
Every PDF is a Factur-X file: a PDF/A-3 that also contains the invoice data as XML (European standard EN 16931, BASIC profile). Compatible accounting software reads it without re-typing.
Orders that could not be invoiced
When a paid order cannot be invoiced automatically, it is flagged in red on the home page with the reason. The most common cases:
- order in a currency other than the euro;
- gift card, tip, duties or additional fees, not supported yet;
- incomplete billing address;
- shipping without VAT: turn on charging taxes on shipping rates in Shopify’s tax settings.
Fix the cause (the order’s billing address in Shopify, tax settings…), then click “Retry” in the banner: Impec reads the order again and issues the invoice, then the credit note for any refunds.
An order older than 60 days can no longer be read: write to us at support@impecfacture.com with its number.
Missed orders
Shopify notifies Impec of every payment and every refund. If a notification is lost (outage, maintenance), Impec catches up: when the app is opened (at most every 30 minutes), it reads the orders of the last 60 days and invoices those that have no invoice yet. The “Check for missed orders” button on the home page runs this check right away.
Plans and monthly limit
- Free: 20 invoices per month.
- Starter: 200 invoices per month, $9 per month.
- Pro: unlimited invoices, $19 per month.
Credit notes are never counted. All plans have the same features. The subscription is billed by Shopify, on your Shopify bill.
When the monthly limit is reached, paid orders are not lost: they are put on hold, then invoiced in payment order as soon as you change plan or at the start of the next month.
Accounting exports
The “Exports” page prepares, for the period of your choice:
- the sales register (CSV, opens in Excel), one row per invoice or credit note with VAT by rate;
- the sales journal in FEC format (the French accounting entries file), for your accountant;
- the full archive (ZIP): all PDFs, the register and the journal.
Journal accounts can be changed in “My business”. For security, download links are valid for 15 minutes: after that, reopen the page.
Before uninstalling Impec
Your invoices and credit notes are deleted 48 hours after uninstalling. First download the full archive of each year from the “Exports” page: you must keep your invoices for 10 years.
Your customers’ data requests
- A customer who requests their data goes through Shopify. Impec then emails you the list of their invoices and credit notes, with the PDFs; if sending fails, a banner on the home page lets you download them. Pass them on to the customer within one month.
- A customer who requests erasure of their data: their invoices and credit notes are kept, because the law requires you to keep them; their other data (orders on hold, email address of deliveries) is erased.
Language
The app is shown in French if your Shopify admin is in French, in English otherwise. Invoices, credit notes, emails to your customers and accounting exports are always in French.
